What's the best way to curl long hair? How to beautifully curl your hair with curlers

With an extraordinary design, the iron can, together with your imagination, create a lot of options for curls.

Despite the apparent simplicity, in order to curl your hair with different irons you need to know many secrets and wisdom, and we’ll talk about them.

After all, women and girls want different curls: from the face and to the face, at the ends or along the entire length of the hair, as well as different diameters.

How to get spirals using an iron?

With the advent of the hair straightener, creating curls has become much faster and easier.
Despite the apparent simplicity, in order to curl your hair with different irons you need to know many secrets and wisdom, and we’ll talk about them.

Daily use of a straightener can cause significant damage to your hair if you do not follow the rules to minimize it.

  1. When choosing an iron, you don’t need to go cheap. Remember, metal plates will quickly “kill” your hair. Tourmaline or ionic ceramic coating of the plates is much more gentle on the hair structure.
  2. It's easy to burn your hair, but it's much more difficult to restore it. Before each use of the iron, treat your hair with a heat-protective spray or thermoactive milk. Then your hair will be fine.
  3. Remains of varnish or foam can damage the hair structure when exposed to a straightener. Therefore, before curling, you should wash your hair thoroughly.
  4. Under no circumstances should you straighten or curl wet, undried hair, much less run one strand at a time several times. Over-dried hair splits, becomes brittle and looks untidy.

Important tip: For owners of fine hair, the optimal heating temperature for the iron is 160 degrees. For those who have thick hair, you can heat it up to 200 degrees. Higher temperatures will damage the hair structure. It is better to use the iron with a heating temperature regulator.

Curls at the ends

Curls at the ends of the hair make the hairstyle more elegant and romantic. To make them you will need: an iron, a hairpin, a heat protectant.

  1. Treat your hair with a product that protects it from burns and dryness. Wait until your hair is completely dry.
  2. Gather your hair into a bun, leaving a few strands at the base of your neck, and secure them at the back of your head.
  3. From the remaining hair, separate a small strand, no thicker than your little finger. Place the strand between the hot plates, place it on top of the straightener and rotate the iron 360 degrees and slowly lower it down.
  4. Then start curling the remaining hair.

Secret: Curls will be obtained at the ends of the hair if the strand is secured between the plates of the iron not at the roots, but slightly below the middle of its length.

Curls along the entire length

Creating classic curls along the entire length of your hair with an iron is no more difficult than at the ends. The only difference from the previous technique for creating curls is that a strand of hair must be clamped between the plates of the iron at a distance of 8-10 cm from the roots.

Tip: The slower you lower the iron along the length of the strand, the steeper the curl you get. If you want soft waves, do everything a little faster. Moving unevenly will leave kinks and kinks in your hair.

Curls wave

The most elegant of curls, first introduced by Victoria's Secret, is rightfully considered one of the most stylish and feminine hairstyles. To make it more difficult, you will have to work a little.

  1. Treat your hair with a heat protectant. Wait until it dries.
  2. Divide your hair into strands and curl with an iron from the very roots. The curls should be tight and voluminous.
  3. Gently comb the resulting curls with a brush, they will become smooth and lie freely along the back.
  4. Secure the recesses in the waves with clamps.
  5. Apply hairspray to your hair, let it dry for 10-15 minutes and firmly fix your hair.
  6. Only after the varnish has completely dried, remove the clamps.

Important: under no circumstances apply styling to your hair before you start curling. When exposed to hot temperatures, it can ignite and your hair will burn.

Delicate curls

Delicate curls from the very roots are easy to create in this way:

  1. Divide clean, dry hair, pre-treated with a heat protectant, into many strands and twist them into spirals. Secure them to your head with bobby pins in the shape of donuts.
  2. Press each bagel with an iron.
  3. When all the hair buns are ready, let your hair down.

That's all, now all that remains is to arrange the curls beautifully and fix the hairstyle with hairspray. Look at the photo above, it shows step by step how to curl and how the hair will look after it.

Unusual curling of curls using a brush and foil

Curls curled with a brush and foil look no less original. Foil for this purpose is suitable both for a special hairdressing salon and food grade.

  • The hair, prepared in the previously described way, needs to be twisted onto the handle of a cosmetic brush. When removing hair from the brush handle, you will not have any problems if you use a brush with a flat and smooth surface.
  • Take a small piece of foil. Place the brush in the middle (perpendicular to the foil), slowly remove the curled hair from the handle of the brush and wrap the resulting curls in it.
  • Clamp the foil with hair between the plates of the iron. Count to 20.
  • Unfold the foil and evaluate the result.

Using this hair curling technique allows you to get a spiral curl of any diameter.
By the way, the size of the diameter of the spiral depends on the diameter of the brush handle. The thicker the brush, the larger the spiral.

How to curl your hair quickly with an iron?

There is a faster way to curl your hair with an iron.
For faster curling, the prepared strand is clamped between the plates at the roots. Lower the iron slightly, turn it slightly, hold in place for 3 seconds. Then lower it down again and turn in the other direction. And further, along the entire length of the strand. At the end of the strand, turn the iron 360 degrees, sliding it through the hair. The effect will be amazing.

Instructions for long hair

  1. Wash your hair and dry it.
  2. Treat your hair with a heat protectant.
  3. Insert a section of hair into the iron.
  4. Turn the iron perpendicular to the curl.
  5. Throw the free end of the strand over the iron.
  6. Rotate it 360 degrees.
  7. Slowly lower the curling iron down.
  8. Fix the resulting curls with hairspray.

For short hair

Look at the photos and videos above in the article and choose the appropriate wave option. Then start preparing your hair.

Repeat the process of separating and twisting each strand. Considering that for short curls it is worth choosing a lower temperature, there is no need to warm it up thoroughly. When straightening your haircut, correct the curls that are not lying in the right direction.

Separate the curls or ringlets, lightly shake to add volume and use hairspray to set.

Hello, my dear readers! Beautiful, thick waves add femininity to the image and evoke admiration from the opposite sex. Wavy styling can be ordered at a salon, but for everyday wear it is more useful to learn how to twist your curls yourself; for this you can use a curling iron, hair curlers, or a hair straightener (yes, it can also twist your hair). When using a curling iron and straightener, do not forget about thermal protection, because high temperatures have a detrimental effect on the hair structure. People have a popular word for “burning” their hair, so to prevent this from happening, adopt simple and completely harmless life hacks. And today I will tell you how to make curls without a curling iron or curlers.

Why does using curling irons and curlers harm your hair?

It's no secret that frequent heat styling has a detrimental effect on the condition of your hair. Here are some reasons to abandon this styling method.

After frequent use curling irons:

  • The hair at the ends is split.
  • Hair becomes brittle.
  • By acting on the strands with hot objects (curling iron, tongs), we deprive them of moisture. As a result, we get lifeless, dull hair.
  • By overusing tools that heat up, you risk losing volume and thickness - in such conditions, hairs will sooner or later fall out.

Curlers unsafe, as it might seem at first glance. Electric and thermal rollers act on hair like curling irons and tongs. Curlers with a brush damage the hair structure, while metal ones electrify the strands and lead to split ends. The most gentle ones are plastic curlers, but they are made with holes in which hair gets tangled and torn. A similar effect can be achieved using Velcro curlers.

If you use “grandmother’s secrets”, the strands will not only be curled, but also healthy. Here are the most common methods of curling hair without curling irons or curlers.

How to make curls using a bun

This method is easy and quick; it is recommended to do it on clean, washed, damp hair.

  1. Start by making a ponytail high at the back of your head.
  2. Next, twist the strands tightly, wrap them in a barrel and secure with hairpins or bobby pins.
  3. After 7-8 hours, remove the pins and carefully unwind the tourniquet.
  4. The resulting strands do not need to be combed, but only beaten and straightened with your hands.
  5. Fix your hair with hairspray. We get light and stylish curls.

How to make curls using rags

The procedure looks funny, but the result is elastic curls that will not lose their shape throughout the day. You will need strips of cotton fabric and only 10-15 minutes of free time.

  1. The hair needs to be washed with shampoo, dried, combed and divided into strands; their thickness may vary depending on the desired result.
  2. Place the tip in the middle of a rag curler, twist to the very root, tie the ends into a knot.
  3. Take the next strand and do the same...
  4. The hair must be completely dry, as a rule, this takes 8-12 hours.
  5. After you have removed the rags, straighten your hair and spray with hairspray.

Interesting: in addition to pieces of fabric, you can use cocktail tubes, pieces of paper, foil, and caps from felt-tip pens.

Curls on stiletto heels

  1. To start, be sure to lightly dampen your hair.
  2. Form thin small strands and from the roots in the shape of a figure eight, begin to twist the strand onto a hairpin.
  3. In a few hours you will have a voluminous hairstyle.
  4. Use your hands to comb your hair from the roots and shape it.

Curls with a bandage

Headbands are a common accessory for creating hairstyles. Few people know that with its help you can quickly create light curls. We put on a fabric bandage with a tight elastic band, and spray loose hair with water. Next, divide your hair into equal strands, then twist each one into a flagellum and thread them under the bandage. It will only take a few hours and the curls are ready! Remove the bandage and shape the hair with your hands without a comb.

Curls using braids - an old and proven method

This method is considered the most gentle and easiest. To get lush curly hair, just wash your hair, dry it a little, braid a lot of braids and go to bed. In the morning we unravel and get light waves. If you want to get strands twisted from the roots, braid the spikelets. The more spikelets, the smaller the curls.

Flagella are a good way to make curls

It will take a few minutes to form curls this way. Wet hair needs to be divided into thin strands, twisted into tight strands, and secured. We wait about 10 hours, remove the pins, and form the styling.

Curly styling on fingers

It’s easy to curl your hair this way: take a strand, wrap it around your finger, and attach it with a hairpin at the base. To make the strand thicker, wrap it around several fingers. To style in half an hour, first apply foam and lightly dry your hair with a hairdryer.

Curling your hair with sticks

You can not only eat sushi with chopsticks, but also braid your hair. To get light curls, divide your hair in the middle and gather one part into a ponytail. Twist the free part into a ponytail around the stick, secure with an elastic band and pass the stick under the elastic band. Do the same, on the other side, secure the sticks with rubber bands. Go to bed, and in the morning, take off the sticks and elastic bands and enjoy the gorgeous waves. To simplify your hairstyle, you can braid one shell, the curls will turn out natural and light.

We spin on pieces of paper

First you need to make paper curlers. A regular notebook or other paper will do. Cut the sheets into rectangular strips and knead them a little. Roll the rectangles into tubes, threading a thin piece of fabric inside so that the edges protrude on both sides.

The procedure begins traditionally: we wash the hair, rinse it with conditioner, dry it with a towel, and let it dry a little naturally. Apply styling product and distribute over the entire length. We separate the strands one by one, try to maintain the same thickness, wind them onto pieces of paper, and secure them with a tie. We move in the direction from the back of the head to the forehead. At night, wear a headscarf to prevent the curls from slipping. Remember - the thinner the strands, the more magnificent and voluminous the hairstyle will be.

Features of curling depending on hair length

When choosing a curling method, consider the length of your hair. It’s unlikely to be possible to braid braids on a bob, but it’s easy to make spikelets from the roots! Ask a friend or mother about this. In order for the hairstyle to take its shape better, first apply a little mousse or foam, but in no case varnish - it is applied only to fix the result. By the way, if you use a curling iron or tongs, the hairspray applied before styling will burn your hair.

Short hair can be wrapped around felt-tip pen caps and juice straws. If you took rags for example, and the strands obediently curl in them, then this method is suitable for you. It is most convenient to twist medium-length hair - any of the methods described above are suitable for them. Long thick hair is more difficult to curl. Rags, braids, ropes, pieces of paper/foil are suitable for them.

How to extend the effect obtained?

  1. To preserve the effect of curled hair longer, wash your hair before the procedure, do not forget about the preliminary application of special products: mousses, foams, etc. They can be divided into amateur and professional. Using the second group, the effect will last a day or even two. They cost more, but it is much more effective. It is not recommended to use strong hold products every day - it damages the hair. Also, watch the dosage so as not to get sticky hair.
  2. Do not comb the strands, but shape them with your hands, and secure the result with varnish. What’s interesting: styling on washed hair lasts longer, the main condition is that it should dry well. If you don’t wash your hair, but simply spray your hair with water from a spray bottle, the effect of curly hair will last for several hours.
  3. In the 90s, curling from the roots was in fashion - it gave the hair additional volume. Nowadays, girls love natural looks; for this style, curl your hair, departing 10-15 cm from the roots (depending on the length). Hollywood stars fell in love with light, careless waves. To achieve this effect, twist the strands away from your face.

To look your best, you don't have to visit the hairdresser every day. You can do a beautiful hairstyle at home, the main thing is to study your hair and use an experimental method to find the most successful hairstyle that holds up well. It is important to monitor the quality of your hair, nourishing it with masks from time to time and not overusing a hairdryer, then your curls will not only be beautifully shaped, but also healthy, shiny, and well-groomed.

For most women, creating curls without curling irons will soon become quite easy. This will only take 10-30 minutes. If you are twisting your hair for the first time, the whole procedure may seem complicated to you, but this is only at first - you will quickly learn everything and flaunt yourself with attractive curls.

Hair preparation

There are several stages of preparing your hair for using styling devices; you absolutely need them so that the resulting masterpiece lasts a long time and the device, in this case the straightener, does not harm your hair.

This needs to be done before styling your hair:

Stage 1. Wash your hair with shampoo, moisturize with conditioner or conditioner. For dry and thin hair, it is better to use a mask; it nourishes the hair fiber more.

Stage 2. Apply styling mousse. Use fixing mousse on wet hair. We recommend the mousse, it leaves no traces, and the curls from the iron will last longer. Some people use foam, but it is more noticeable.

Stage 3. Dry. Whether you use a hairdryer or let them dry on their own does not matter for the curl, do what is most convenient. They must be dry.

Stage 4. Apply thermal protection to dried hair. It is mainly sold in the form of two-phase sprays, there are balms, but buy a spray for curling. The most important thing is the quality of this product; the temperature of the rectifier directly depends on it. Do this even if your aligner has a jadeite or tourmaline finish.

Stage 5. Comb your hair thoroughly.

Iron width for your hair:

  • Length to shoulder width - 2 cm. If thick - 2.5 cm;
  • For long and thin ones, the width is from 5 to 6 cm.

Required temperature parameter:

Fine hair - do not exceed 160 degrees. The temperature of coarse grains is up to 200 degrees. The golden mean for styling is 180 degrees.

Curling methods using an iron

There are a couple of nuances in the procedure for modeling curls with straightening tongs, which we will talk about now. It's not so scary if you study the step-by-step procedure and video:

Step 1. Set the desired temperature;

Step 2. Decide on the level of curl - from the root or to the middle of the length. We bring the straightening curling iron vertically to the head and clamp a strand of hair between the plates. Here you need to take into account that if the strand is thin, the styling is more beautiful and lasts longer;

Step 4. Slowly move the iron down to the ends, just like when straightening. Due to the fact that a revolution has been made around the axis, the hair will curl rather than straighten. It is important to twist your hair correctly at once so as not to run the heat through the strand twice.

There is one trick: The slower you move the iron, the stronger and more pronounced the curl will be.

This is how you should wind all the strands step by step. This usual option usually takes about 15 minutes, provided the hair is of average thickness. Don't be afraid to fix your hair with varnish, but don't overdo it. Spray when all the curls are ready, not one at a time, otherwise the varnish may accidentally get on an even strand, then when curling the iron will stick to it. The varnish also needs to be selected for the level of fixation that you require: medium, weak, super fix... As a rule, the level is always indicated on the bottle.

Options for curling hair with straightening irons

Basic rules for each of the hairstyles listed below:

  • Always treat your hair with a heat protectant;
  • Comb your hair well;
  • Monitor the heating temperature;
  • Do not place the hot straightener on the surface of furniture;
  • Clean the plates after each installation.
  1. Classic method - curls of medium thickness using a medium iron

  • Prepare your hair;
  • Set the temperature to 150 degrees.
  • Divide the entire volume as convenient for you, but it is better to start with the lower layers and move towards the top of the head;
  • Separate strands two fingers thick;
  • Clamp the curling iron at the root zone, wrap it around its axis (from the middle of the hair, if you want curly ends);
  • Slide the iron along the hair growth - vertically;
  • Fix each curl with varnish.

Curling with an iron for a bob:

  1. The effect of naturally curly curls on a thin iron made of strands

  • Distribute your washed hair into zones and divide it into small strands for twisting with a tourniquet;
  • Set the temperature to 150-100 (for weak hair) degrees.
  • Supposedly straighten the bundles from top to bottom 2 times, do this slowly, clamping tightly;
  • Spread and adjust with your fingers;
  • It is not necessary to fix it, we create natural curls.

Incredible root volume procedure Boost up. What is this

  1. Light small strands like Shakira's in 10 minutes with an iron and braids

  • Spray your hair, dried after washing, with thermal spray and braid it. Run a damp palm over the braids and let them rest for 10 minutes;
  • Heat the iron to 180 degrees;
  • Very, very slowly “straighten” the braids by pinching them tightly several times.
  • Do not unravel immediately, wait for the weave to cool completely;
  • After unbraiding it, the finished curly hair can be combed (fine hair needs it to get volume. This experiment will not work for coarse and thick hair).

Video:

  1. Curls on ends with foil

  • In this case, it is not necessary to divide the head into zones;
  • Part your hair or lay it out as usual;
  • Take pieces of hair and twist them around a few times. Hide it in foil (you should get a square of foil with a clear circle of hair inside);
  • The temperature of the plates should be set to 200 degrees;
  • Use tongs to pinch the square, unclench it, and so on 3 times;
  • Remove the foil after all the curls have been heated;
  • Before fixing, straighten the hairstyle with your fingers (you can curl your ponytail using the same method).
  1. Hollywood curls with straightening irons:

  • It's simple, do everything as in the first classic method;
  • Before drying, when preparing the hair, apply foam;
  • And when the spirals are ready, comb them and pin them with hairpins in the deepening zones of the wave;
  • Spray the varnish onto the outstretched arm of the bottle;
  • Remove the hairpins very carefully.

  1. Curling from rope buns:

  • Twist a few buns, roll a small strand (the thickness of a finger) into a flagellum, and he himself will let you understand how to form it into a “horn”;
  • The rectifier temperature for winding them is 200 degrees;
  • Press them with tongs from different sides, do not pull them, otherwise they will unravel;
  • Unravel with caution, turn the curls in the direction, fix.
  1. Reverse curls:

It looks cool if you have shoulder-length hair and long bangs.

  • Follow the first method.
  • But when you reach the top layer, twist the iron with the strand from the face to the back of the head.
  1. Curling hair extensions with an iron:

Secret from the video stylist:

  1. Spirals of several sizes using a pencil and straightening tongs

  • You will really need sections, otherwise it will be inconvenient to work on your hairstyle;
  • Wrap each strand around a pencil, try to leave a gap between the bends, otherwise the spiral will bounce a lot;
  • Wrap with foil;
  • Using an iron at 200 degrees, press the pencil along its entire length;
  • Unravel strictly when cool;
  • The result is that the curl can be combed and will look very much like chemicals.

Compare your length and desires, otherwise there will be surprises. If you do not take into account the features, in the end the hairstyle can add sharpness, height and completely ruin the appearance. Are you trying to make money on your own? - Remember:

Useful secrets

Those who often use an iron recommend one trick: after washing your hair before going to bed, comb it with foam and lightly dry it. During the night they are saturated, dry, and the excess is washed off (this way you can get your bed linen dirty, so you can cover the pillow with something you don’t mind). And in the morning, pay attention to the fact that the strands are super pliable and easily fold into the shape you need.

For those who want volume, comb the root part. Particularly suitable for thin, weak hair.

After curling your hair, it is forbidden to comb your hair with a brush, except for those hairstyles in which this is suggested.

Of course, there are a lot of devices designed specifically for styling in waves. Budget curlers or the same curling irons. But curlers take a lot of time, and no one can boast that they can be used comfortably. Curling irons, on the contrary, will turn you into a “Curly Sue”, but the size of the curl will depend on the curling iron. But purchasing several pieces is quite expensive, and you can’t take everything with you on vacation. With a straightening iron, everything is simple - with just one you can create a dozen stylish hairstyles without straining too much.

Types of hair straighteners

Everyone is aware of professional and household equipment, both of which are freely available.

Their price depends on what material the ironing plates are used in the device, on the type of temperature controller, on the shape and width of the plates themselves, in general, on the technical data. Well, the professional one lasts longer, as it is intended for frequent use in salons.

Heating plate coating

The safer the plate coating, the more often and with greater peace of mind you can use your straightener.

  • Metal- This is the cheapest and worst of all options. Hot metal plates damage your hair as soon as they come into contact with them. The effect on your hair is the same as touching a hot frying pan with your finger.
  • Tourmaline- careful. Suitable for every day. Tourmaline is a material of natural origin. When it heats up, the negatively charged ions neutralize the electrification of the hair;
  • Ceramics- models at a favorable price and with a minimum of harm. The only downside is that they need to be constantly cleaned; plaque will remain on the plates;
  • Marble-ceramic (double-sided)- do not spoil hair, on the contrary, they make it healthier. Ceramic heats the hair, marble cools it. There is no burning effect;
  • Teflon- most often used in professional ironing. Salons choose this coating because, unlike ceramics, styling products do not stick to Teflon;
  • Jadeite- very careful. Such irons can be used even on wet hair and are not afraid of ruining it;
  • Silver plating- has an antibacterial effect. These irons are expensive, but the price is justified by the results.

Use appliances with temperature control.

There are two types of plate shapes:

  • rounded at the ends - for the ability to just curl your hair;
  • straight - only for the purpose of straightening hair.

How to choose the right flat iron for straightening and curling

Not all girls are ready to get a perm. The procedure has a negative impact on the hair, making it weak and dull. However, at important events, every lady wants to look stunning, be it a corporate evening or a dinner with her loved one. You don't have to visit a salon to achieve beautiful curls. Let's look at the basic methods of curling at home.

How to curl your hair with an iron

Experts have developed several options for curling onto an iron, but the preparation before the procedure is the same.

Wash your hair thoroughly, apply conditioner or mask, blow dry, and comb well. Cover the strands with a heat protectant and styling mousse, then set the iron to heat to 160 degrees.

Spiral curls

  1. Divide your hair into 4 equal parts crosswise and pin them with hairdressing clips. Move the flat comb from one temple to the other, then make a straight parting.
  2. Unravel one section, divide it into 3 strands.
  3. Take a straightener and pinch the curl just above the middle at a 90 degree angle. Make one rotation around its axis, then turn the iron over vertically and slowly move down. Repeat the movements with the remaining strands.
  4. Unravel one section of hair at a time, repeating the previous manipulations.
  5. Once you have curled all your hair, run your fingers through it, imitating the movements of a comb, and spray with hairspray.

"Wet" effect

  1. Take a thin strand with a diameter of about 5 mm. Twist it into a bundle clockwise, then proceed to styling.
  2. Use an iron to run along the entire length of the curled strand, squeezing the plates more tightly than usual. You need to secure each hair well so that the hairstyle does not fall apart.
  3. Do this with each curl, don’t be lazy to process thin strands. Fix the end result with a strong varnish.

You can not process the entire length; squeeze the iron at intervals of 3-4 cm to reduce the time spent.

Flirty curls

  1. Divide your hair into 2 parts - upper and lower.
  2. Divide the upper section into strands 5 mm thick, twist each curl onto your finger and pin it at the roots.
  3. After this, do similar manipulations with the lower part.
  4. Increase the temperature on the iron to 200 degrees. Squeeze the hair bun between the plates and wait 15 seconds, do not remove the hair clip. Go through each twisted strand, pausing for a while.
  5. Release the clamps and fix the styling with varnish.

Soft waves

  1. Divide your hair into 4-6 sections and secure with clips. Separate one section and take a medium-thick strand.
  2. Fix the iron at the end of the curl and rotate it counterclockwise, as if winding it on a curling iron.
  3. Reach the root zone and hold for 30 seconds. Unravel it carefully, do not touch it with your hands.
  4. Do the same with the rest of your hair. The thicker the strands you take, the larger the curls will be.
  5. Cover your hair with a super strong hold hairspray, as this method of styling will cause curls to come out quickly.

Wash your hair with shampoo, then rinse with conditioner. Leave your hair to dry naturally; it should be damp when you start the procedure.

Now you need to prepare the rags. You can use an old T-shirt, sheet, stocking or even a sock. Cut the fabric into thin strips 3 cm wide.

  1. Divide your hair into many thin strands. Take a rag, place the tip of a curl in the middle and tie the fabric in a knot so that the end is tightly fixed.
  2. Twist the strand clockwise. When you go up, tie another knot at the roots. In this simple way, curl the rest of your hair and tighten it well.
  3. Tie a scarf or a scarf on your head to prevent your hair from falling apart and sticking out in different directions.
  4. You need to keep the cloths on all night, so be prepared for discomfort while sleeping.
  5. When you wake up in the morning, untie one twist at a time; be careful, the hair may wrap around the cloth and become tangled. Spray your hair with a low-hold hairspray; your curls will last a long time.

Important
You don't have to tie a second knot at the root zone; you can stop in the middle or just twist the ends.

Depending on how thick you take the initial strand, the curls will turn out large or small.

Wash your hair with shampoo and rinse with conditioner, dry first with a towel, then with a hairdryer. Comb each strand thoroughly, apply a heat protectant and styling mousse. Turn on the tongs and wait until they reach 170 degrees.

  1. Divide your hair into 4 equal sections using a fine comb. Pin three parts with clamps, leave one.
  2. Separate a thin strand, squeeze the curling iron at the end of the hair and twist counterclockwise (in a “towards you” motion). Stay at the end point for half a minute, carefully unwind the curl and at the same time unclench the curling iron.
  3. Take the next strand, now wind it clockwise (moving away from you). Also stay in the root zone for 30 seconds.
  4. Continue the procedure, alternating the movements of the curling iron. Curls twisted in different directions look impressive and natural.
  5. Spray your hair with hairspray or leave it like that if you want to create a romantic look.

Important
Combing curled strands is recommended when you need to make your hair fluffy. In this case, distinct curls will not be visible.

Long-lasting curls are obtained initially on thin strands. If you want soft waves, separate the curl 1.5 times thicker.

Wash your hair with shampoo, use conditioner or mask. Dry your strands with a towel, squeezing them gently. Cover your curls with a heat protectant and apply styling foam. Prepare a medium-diameter round comb in advance.

  1. Divide your hair into many strands of varying thicknesses, pin each of them with a crab or hairdresser's clip.
  2. Take 1 curl, lift it and bring the comb to the roots. Start winding the strand around it along its entire length using movements away from you or toward you, as is more convenient.
  3. Turn on the hairdryer and dry the first curl, the hair should not be wet when you remove the comb, otherwise the hairstyle will quickly fall apart.
  4. Wrap each strand around the comb. If it is not convenient to do this with your fingers, fix the brush at the tip and twist it. In this case, it will be difficult for you to untangle the curl after styling.
  5. Once the hairstyle is ready, lift each strand and spray it with hairspray at the roots to add volume. The product is also applied along the entire length to fix the result.

Important
During styling, it is permissible to use combs of different diameters.

Strands twisted in different directions look very impressive, do not neglect this advice.

You don't have to visit a salon and pay 2,500 rubles for styling. Choose the appropriate option depending on what you have at hand. If you have an iron but no curling iron, create a fashionable “wet” hair effect. If you don’t have a curling iron or straightener, create a style using a hairdryer. You will conquer everyone with your new look!

Video: how to curl your hair quickly and cheaply

Curls always look quite interesting and even romantic. To achieve the desired hairstyle, girls with naturally straight hair often resort to harmful thermal devices. But luckily, there are many ways to curl your hair without heat! Regular hair clips have been used for cold curling for decades, and they are suitable for hair of any length. You can also use cold curlers to add curl to your hair as it dries. If you prefer wavy hairstyles, twist your hair into a bun before going to bed or wrap it around a headband for a vintage-style perm on any length of hair!

Steps

Curling with hair clips

Start with damp, combed hair and treat it with styling lotion. Wash your hair with shampoo and condition your hair as usual. Then gently pat your curls with a towel until they are damp but not wet. Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb, then evenly distribute a small amount of styling lotion from root to tip.

  • If you have thinning hair that doesn't hold a curl well, it may be best to start with wet hair. On the other hand, if your hair is very thick, it is better to curl it in a slightly damp state to reduce subsequent drying time.
  • If you don't have styling lotion, use a light styling mousse. Avoid using products that weigh your hair down, as they will make your curls look stiff and crunchy rather than soft and natural.

Separate a section of hair about 2.5 cm wide from near your face. To make the curl look its best, you need to try to select approximately the same strands each time. Typically, curling using clips involves working with strands about 2.5 cm wide. This size of strands makes them easier to curl.

Wrap the end of the strand around your fingers 1-2 times. Place the end of the strand against your finger, and then wrap it loosely around your finger several times. Try to create a neat ring with the ends of your hair hidden inside. This will allow you to achieve a better curling result when all stages of the work are completed.

  • To create bouncy, bouncy curls, twist the strand around your finger in an upward direction or toward your face. For a fuller curl, twist the section downwards or away from the face.
  • Don't wrap the strands too tightly around your finger, otherwise you will have a hard time removing the ring of hair from your finger without fraying it.
  • You can also twist your hair onto two fingers at once, so it will be easier to remove it later.

Advice: To create a more fashionable curl, leave the very tip of the strand (about 2.5 cm) uncurled. This way you will get curly locks, the ends of which will remain straight.

Take your fingers out of the hair ring and twist it all the way to the roots. Carefully remove your fingers from the ring of hair you created, holding it so that it does not fray. Then twist the strand around the ring all the way to the roots. When you complete this operation, the ring of hair should be located close to the scalp.

  • Do not twist your hair when you twist the strand into a ring, otherwise the curl will turn out messy and will cause a lot of frizz.
  • You may need to practice a little - be patient and don't give up!
  • Secure the hair ring with a clip. Place the clip on the ring of hair you have twisted and place it close to the scalp so that it securely holds the hair. It is best to work with professional hairdressing hair clips, especially curved ones, which fit more comfortably to the head.

    Curl all your hair using the above method. Curling with clips requires some time, since in this case you need to work with small strands of hair. However, it does produce large, bouncy curls without any heat, so be patient and work each strand as gently as possible.

    Let your hair dry completely before removing the clips. Traditionally, clip-in curling is done at night, allowing your hair to dry while you sleep. When you wake up in the morning, you can simply remove the clips and get a glamorous hairstyle that will last all day.

    Curling with a bun

    1. Wet your hair with water. If desired, you can wash your hair and condition your hair. However, if your hair is clean, you can simply dampen it with water. Wet hair should first be blotted with a towel to remove excess moisture.

      Your hair will hold its curl better if you curl it 2–3 days after the last hair wash, and not on the same day.

      Comb your hair thoroughly. To get even, smooth curls, comb your hair thoroughly before creating a bun. To detangle your hair, use a wide-toothed flat comb, and if you plan to create more than one bun, additionally part your hair.

      • If you are making only one bun, comb your hair back away from your face.
    2. Create one bun to create large, voluminous waves in your hair. Pull your hair into a high ponytail and secure it with an elastic band. Create a bun by twisting the ponytail 2-3 times and then wrapping it around its own base until the very end of the hair. Secure the bun with a second elastic band or bobby pins.

      Create two buns on your head for a tighter, wavy look. If you want to make your hair a little curlier, try creating two buns at once. Once you have parted your hair using a flat comb, pull each section of hair into a high ponytail. The tails should be located on the sides of the head. Twist the ponytail tightly until it begins to curl around its base, and then wrap the hair around the base of the ponytail all the way to the end. Secure each bun with an elastic band or bobby pins.

      • For additional fixation, hair tufts can be hidden under a headband.
      • To make the curl in your hairstyle start lower, place the buns closer to the base of the neck.
    3. Go to bed. Since you have curled your wet hair quite tightly, you will need to wait 6-8 hours for it to dry, or even overnight. Fortunately, this method allows you to create a great curl while you sleep at night, and since the hair is neatly tied up, you will sleep more comfortably than with some other curling methods.

      • If you don't want to go to bed with buns on your head, try wearing them all day long to have a glamorous hairstyle ready for the evening.
    4. Let your hair down in the morning. When you wake up in the morning, carefully remove the elastic bands or bobby pins that secure them from the bunches. Use your fingers to straighten your hair and enjoy the resulting light curl!

      • If desired, use a small amount of hairspray to set the curl.
    5. Cold perm with curlers or their equivalents

      1. Select wet curlers slightly smaller in diameter than the curls should be. If you need a large curl or just want to add extra volume to your hair, opt for large rollers (2.5–5 cm in diameter). If you need a tight curl, use small or medium-sized curlers (up to 1.5 cm in diameter).

        • Spiral wand curlers are great for creating spiral curls or bringing out natural wavy hair. They are also good for short hair due to their small diameter.
        • If you don't have curlers on hand, you can cut an old T-shirt into strips. Make strips of approximately the same width as the planned curly curls, and in length - slightly longer than the length of your hair.
        • Some foam rollers can be damaged if you use wet hair on them, so make sure the curlers you use are designed for wet curling. And if you plan to sleep in curlers, it is better to opt for soft curlers made of rubber, silicone or satin-coated curlers.
      2. Moisturize your hair. Wash your hair and treat your hair with regular conditioner or simply moisten your curls with water from a spray bottle. If you are starting with wet hair, gently pat it dry with a soft towel until it is damp. The curl will hold better if done on damp hair. Due to excess moisture, your hair may not be completely dry by the time you remove the curlers.

        • Do not use hair serum or leave-in conditioner as these products may cause the curl to not set.
      3. Comb your hair with a wide-toothed comb. Gently run a wide-toothed comb through damp hair to ensure there are no tangles. If your hair becomes tangled, it will be more difficult for you to separate identical strands from the total mass and the curl will turn out to be a mess.

        • Do not brush wet hair with a hairbrush, otherwise there is a high risk of tearing and damaging it.
      4. Select a small section of hair in the center of your forehead. Separate from the total mass of hair a strand the width of the curlers you are using or a little less. Typically, strands 2.5–5 cm wide are used. Lift the strand vertically from the head, then apply curlers from the back perpendicular to the ends of the hair. Curl a strand of hair in curlers all the way to the base, away from your face. Secure the curler with the included clip.

        • If you are curling strips of fabric, twist your hair around them in the same way and then tie the ends of the strips together to secure it.
        • If you only want to curl the ends of your hair, stop before reaching your head and tie the ends of the strips at the level where you want the curl to end.
      5. Curl the top part of your hair. Following a specific curling pattern will give you a more symmetrical hairstyle and will also make it easier to separate sections of hair from each other. Start by curling the top of your hair from the forehead to the back of the head (in the form of a kind of mohawk). When you're done, you'll have a row of horizontal curlers at the top of your head.

        • This curling will create additional volume at the hair roots.
      6. To complete the curl, curl the sides and back of your hair. Having dealt with the upper part of the hair, select another strand near one of the ears. This time, keep the strand strictly horizontal and the curlers vertical as you apply them to the ends of your hair. Curl the strand from the face to the very base and secure the curlers with a clip. Continue working symmetrically on both sides.

        • To make the curls curl towards the neck, wind the curlers downwards, and to make the curls bounce and curl in the opposite direction, wind them upwards.
        • At the back of the hair, curlers can be placed horizontally or vertically, depending on the desired effect. Horizontal curling will give you fuller curls, while vertical curling will give you more spiral curls.
      7. Leave the curlers on your head until your hair is dry. Since you are not using heat tools, it will take several hours for the curl to set. So be prepared to spend at least four hours in the curlers, but it's best to leave them overnight. If you want to dry your hair faster without using heat, use a hair dryer set to a cool air flow.

        • Hide the curlers under a silk scarf if you need to go somewhere before your hair is dry.
      8. Remove the curlers and straighten your hair. Once your hair is completely dry, remove the clips from the curlers (or untie the fabric strips) and remove the bobby pins (if you used them) from your hair. Work carefully, especially if you want to maintain the look of a tight curl.

        • To get big waves in your hair, comb your hair gently with a wide-toothed comb. You can also run your fingers through your hair to straighten it, but don't use a brush.
        • If desired, fix the hairstyle with hairspray.
      9. Curling hair into a headband

        1. Start with damp hair. The curl will hold best if done on slightly damp hair. Wash and condition your hair as usual. Then pat them dry with a towel. If you don't need to wash your hair, you can simply dampen your hair with a spray bottle of water.

          • Use a wide-toothed comb to detangle hair.
        2. Put a knitted headband on your head. Place the headband so that it sits low on your forehead and wraps around your head in a circle along your entire hairline. The curls will start at the level where the headband is placed, so adjust its position depending on the look you want.

          • This is a great curling method for when you need to go out while your hair is still drying! Your hair will be pulled back into a soft and romantic hairstyle. Try to choose a headband that complements your outfit!

          Did you know? Curling short hair can be difficult at times, but if your hair is long enough to wrap around your headband, curling it won't be that difficult!

          Take a small section of hair and wrap it around the headband. Start working from the side, starting with the strands located near the face. To create nice soft waves on your hair, select strands of the same size as the curly curls themselves (about 1-2 cm wide). Lift the first strand up and wrap it around the headband, pushing the ends of the hair under it. This will make one turn around the bandage. Continue winding the strand around the headband until the very end, and then secure it with a bobby pin.

          • If you don't have bobby pins, you can simply tuck the ends of your hair under the headband to secure them in place.
        3. Continue curling until you have all your hair wrapped around the headband. Having twisted the first strand, move on to the next strand of the same size and wind it in the same way. Continue curling further around the circumference of the headband until you have wrapped all your hair around it.
